Ceramics
In the Marlboro visual arts program, a focus on studio ceramics included exploration of a variety of firing methods, techniques, approaches, and conceptual frameworks.
Ceramics is one of the world’s oldest art mediums, and involved study includes a measure of appreciation for this history. Functional, sculptural, and architectural ceramics all play into a greater understanding of the possibilities available to the ceramic artist. At Marlboro, working in ceramics provided students with the chance to develop technical skills alongside an enriched understanding of craft philosophy. Students were encouraged to engage with the processes of making finished clay pieces and also with pertinent methods of probing personal investigations in the field.
