Google Expeditions Feature Marlboro College
Marlboro College is the first college in Vermont to be included in a new Google project that’s helping elementary and high school teachers worldwide take students on virtual field trips. Google Expeditions college tours are allowing prospective college students to experience virtual visits to Marlboro and other campuses across the U.S., in support of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher initiative to expand college opportunity.
“Now Marlboro can be visited virtually by those who may not have the opportunity to make the trip in person, by using smartphones or tablets to ‘look around’ our beautiful campus and read about key points of interest.” said Caleb Clark, chair of Marlboro’s Teaching with Technology program. “I was honored to receive this grant from Google, which provided us with a 360-degree camera kit for two weeks and access to several of their staff, who guided me through the process of capturing our campus.”
Google Expeditions are part of the First Lady’s Reach Higher initiative to inspire every student in America to take charge of their future by pursuing their education past high school. Teachers may request free Expeditions kits that use virtual reality technology to show students more than 400 places around the world, including museums, coral reefs, and even outer space. College tours like Marlboro’s offer the unique opportunity for students to take immersive, virtual college tours, allowing them access to schools across the country that they may not be able to afford to visit.
Marlboro’s virtual tour is available on smartphones and tablets by downloading the Google Expedition app and searching for Marlboro. For those without the app, there is also an impressive collection of 360-degree photos of campus navigable on any computer or other device through Google Maps.
