Marlboro Welcomes New Students
“If you want to work with amazing teachers and mentors, who will never stop being your teachers and mentors, then you know you’ve come to the right place,” said Julie Rana ’06, mathematics fellow, in her convocation remarks to new students. Julie described her experiences as a student at Marlboro, which prepared her well for graduate school, as part of the Marlboro College Convocation, on September 2, 2014.
The Convocation welcomed more than 70 new students to the academic community, officially introduced them to the Marlboro faculty, and marked the beginning of the 2014-2015 academic year. The new students come from all over the U.S. as well as China, France, England, Canada, and Ethiopia. The largest geographical cohort is from Massachusetts, but almost as many come from Vermont. About 30 percent transferred from another college.
“In a sense we are all new,” said Ellen McCulloch-Lovell, president. “Every year we re-create this intellectual and creative community together, even as we recognize our sustained values. I like to say: We are all students, all teachers, all participants.”
Julie Rana summed up the coming year, “You will form connections with your peers and faculty that will change your life.”
