Peter and John, the recent release from Marlboro film/video professor and independent filmmaker Jay Craven, has been named as a nominee for the 2016 New England Emmy Award for Best Arts/Entertainment Program. Based on the 19th seaside story by Guy de Maupassant, Peter and John was filmed on location in Nantucket in the spring of 2014 as part of the Movies from Marlboro semester intensive, involving the work of 32 college students from a dozen colleges collaborating with 20 professionals.
Peter and John is set in 1872 Nantucket and it tells the story of two brothers whose relationship strains when the younger one receives word of a strange inheritance. When both brothers become attracted to the same mysterious young woman who arrives on their island, their family tension builds to a crisis. The film stars 2014 Golden Globe winner Jacqueline Bisset (Truffaut’s Day for Night), Christian Coulson (The Hours, Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets), Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black, Jane the Virgin), Shane Patrick Kearns, and Gordon Clapp (Flags of Our Fathers, NYPD Blue).
Other nominees in the category of Best Arts/Entertainment Program include two programs from ABC-TV/WCVB’s Chronicle program, WGBH’s Front Row Boston special Punch Brothers Live at House of Blues, and Connecticut Public Television’s narrative production The Cobblestone Corridor. The New England Emmy Awards ceremony will be held at Boston’s Copley Place Hotel on Saturday, June 4.
Movies from Marlboro is a partnership between Kingdom County Productions and Marlboro College, where 26 professionals mentor and collaborate with 32 students from a dozen colleges.
