Building on a study of the arts curriculum at Marlboro College and fellowships in 2014, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation renewed funding for a fellow in digital art this academic year. The presence on campus of sound artist John McCormick, who works with installation, performance, and recording technologies, will strengthen faculty and student awareness and expertise in this field.
“I’ve taken very naturally to teaching at Marlboro,” said John, Marlboro’s Mellon fellow in sound design. “My classroom philosophy centers around experience; whether we’re focusing on technology or art history or craft. My ability to engage with the students allows this dense subject of sound as material to center on applying experiences gained in class.”
John received his MFA from Herron School of Art and Design, in Indianapolis, and his BFA from Purchase College, State University of New York, and his work has been displayed from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts to Roots and Culture Gallery in Chicago. “The support I’ve received from faculty, students, and staff at Marlboro has enabled me to grow as both a professor and artist.”
