Marlboro is pleased to include an exciting new feature on the college’s newly designed website, a “panoramble” virtual tour crafted by alumnus Mark Roessler ’90. This interactive tour will enable prospective students to get a visceral, 360-degree feel for Marlboro without even setting foot on campus.
“This is an amazing resource for prospective students, as well as alumni, who want to roam the grounds from far away and see how things have changed,” said Maia Segura, director of alumni engagement. “Mark has a true gift for bringing out the essence of a place, of a landscape, and we are grateful that he has shared it with Marlboro.”
The author and photographer of A Panoramic Tour of the Northampton State Hospital(Levellers Press), Mark captures historic places with 360-degree digital images and makes them available online through interactive, panoramic tours. Other recent tours have included West Point Military Academy, Smith College Botanical Gardens, and Providence Athenaeum.
Mark studied writing and history at Marlboro—where he met his artist wife Haley Wood ’91—but went on to work in the growing field of interactive design, starting a web design business and experimenting with panoramic photography. He did work for the U.S. Department of Energy and consulted with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on how to create their own tours. He also spent nearly a decade at the Valley Advocate, an alternative newsweekly, where he supplemented feature stories he wrote with panoramic tours of local historic sites.
In addition to the Marlboro College panoramble, Mark’s most recent work has been a tour of the home and offices of Frederick Law Olmsted, famed landscape architect, in Brookline, Massachusetts.
